Floyd Mayweather beats out Jon Jones, Anderson Silva for ESPY

- MMA can't catch a break at the ESPY awards. ESPN's annual sports award show has allowed mixed martial artists to be nominated in their "Best Fighter" category since 2007 with the award only going to boxers before that. Despite the change though, not one MMA fighter has claimed the award since then and this year isn't any different.
This year's nominees for Best Fighter included three boxers and two MMA fighters. Representing the sweet science were P4P king Floyd Mayweather, Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, and Danny Garcia. On the MMA side, you had UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fans voted, and they made their choice.
Floyd Mayweather has taken the crown once again.
Floyd has won the award five times since the switch to allow MMA fighters, while Manny Pacquiao has won two. It was the third nomination for both Jones and Silva, but neither can apparently match the star power of Mayweather.
Mayweather returns to the ring on September 14th to face off with Alvarez in what could be the biggest boxing PPV of all time. Jones steps into the octagon at UFC 165 on September 21st to defend his title against Alexander Gustafsson. Finally, Silva will look to get his 185-lb. title back when he rematches Chris Weidman at UFC 168 on December 28th.
