WBA World light middleweight title
IBF light middleweight title
Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino
Las Vegas, Nevada
Felix Trinidad had ruled over 147lbs with an ironfist. He had vacated his titles in order to move up to 154lbs and start a new chapter in his career. He began with a Unanimous points victory over David Reid to capture the WBA title. It was then he met up with the IBF titlist Fernando Vargas. Vargas had made a name for himself by racking up 14 straight KO's on route to a title shot against Yori Boy Campas. He KO'ed Campas to become the youngest 154lb champion in history. He defended it 5 times against top contenders Howard Clarke, Raul Marquez, Winky Wright, and Ike Quartey, before deciding to meet Trinidad in a unification match pitting 2 undefeated champions against one another. The fight itself is a modern classic for this generation's boxing fan. From the first punch to the last the bout was filled with drama, excitement, controversy and violence, and is one of the most exciting bouts in junior middleweight history. Enjoy!
