Bob Foster vs Chris Finnegan (1972 Fight of the Year - Ring Magazine)
WBC light heavyweight title
WBA World light heavyweight title
Bob Foster, in my opinion the greatest 175lb fighter ever, had won the World Light heavyweight title in 1968 with a 4th round knockout over the great Dick Tiger. He held onto the title for 4 years, defending it 11 times with his only loss being a 2nd KO at the hands of Joe Frazier in a bout for Frazier's World Heavyweight title (Should be noted that Frazier weighed 20lbs more than Foster). In his 12th defense he faced Chris Finnegan. Finnegan was a star in the UK after winning the gold medal at the 1968 Olympics and would be the last man representing the UK to win a gold medal in boxing for 32 years until Audley Harrison won in Sydney. Finnegan was tough, durable and a very skilled boxer who was getting his first chance at a world title. The bout itself was named fight of the year and is one of the best in 175lb divisions history.
