Rolando Navarrete vs Cornelius Boza-Edwards
WBC super featherweight title
Stadio de Pini
Rolando Navarrete takes on Cornelius Boza-Edwards for the 130lb title. Navarrete was a unique fighter at the time due to the fact that he was one of the few southpaws that not only had snap in his left hand but had one punch KO power in his right hand. Just one year prior to this was challenging for the same belt against then champion Alexis Arguello. Rolando came up short that night losing via a 5th round TKO. In doing so he fought 6 tmes in 6 months to earn himself another shot this time against Boza-Edwards. Boza-Edwards, a fierce fighter from Uganda had also lost to Arguello a year prior in a 135lb non-title bout. However, 1981 brought about a shot at the 130lb champion Rafael Limon. Edwards bested Limon over 15 rounds to earn the title and solidified his place atop the division by defending it against Bobby Chacon stopping him in the 13th round. Taking place on neutral ground this fight showcased the best of both and has a great ending to boot. Enjoy!
